2026 Team Tennis Tour Rules

The aim of the Team Tennis Tour is to make competition for tennis players aged 8 & under in the East of Scotland as accessible, beneficial and FUN as possible.

The rules for the 2026 Team Tennis Tour are listed in the sections below.

A team is made up of two players which can be any combination of genders (e.g - two boys, two girls or a boy and a girl).

A club or venue can enter a maximum of three teams at each event initially. A club or venue may be allowed to enter more than three teams subject to prior agreement.

All players in all teams should be born in 2018 or later unless they are using an emergency wildcard (rules around emergency wildcards are noted below).

All players in all teams should have a basic understanding of the game of tennis (ins / outs) and scoring (support will be available).

A 21 or 23 inch racket is the preferred and recommended size. Players will not be allowed to use a racket larger than 25 inches.

In the case where a club or venue has more than one team and a player cannot make it to an event later in the tour then the players must be moved up in their teams accordingly. For example, if a club enters two teams (Team A & Team B) and on the third event of the year a player in Team A cannot attend then a player from Team B would move in to the empty space and a replacement player (or emergency wildcard) would need to be found for the space left in Team B.

A match is played on a standard ‘mini red’ tennis court (11m x 5.5m).

A match will be won by the first player to reach ten points using the normal tie-break scoring and service rotation.

If the match reaches nine points all, the match will be decided by a single golden point (i.e - literally first player to ten points).

Each and every point earned by teams will be added to the Tour Table and will accumulate over the year.

An event will use a round robin format where teams will be put in to a group to compete against other teams.

During an event, players will take part in a singles round robin and a doubles round robin.

The number of teams in each group will depend on entries and venue space available so can be variable.

The Fuzzy Wee Balls can give players bonus points for demonstrating positive behaviours towards their future development (or steal points in the case of Hook where continued negative behaviours have been shown). These will be added to the Tour Table in addition to the match results.

Bonus points can only be awarded by the referee or their assigned assistants.

A club or venue has two emergency wildcards to use as they wish throughout the year.

The emergency wildcard allows a player from an older age group (born no earlier than 2017) to take part in the event although the points they earn won’t be added to the Tour Table.

The intention of the emergency wildcard is to allow clubs and venues to have a degree of flexibility should they have a player that cannot attend an event.

Clubs and venues that are hosting events are encouraged to get their members (e.g - tennis leaders) involved to assist with scoring where possible.

In the event that additional scorers are required, we may ask parents to take up this role. It’s very important that the players are able to concentrate on their tennis skills and combining that with accurately keeping the score at a young age can be a difficult task.
